Annita Mckee is a contemporary visual artist working sculpturally with porcelain and flame worked glass. Emotive pieces are inspired by experiences scuba diving combined with her interest in human beings, and states of mind. Each sculpture is titled with a phrase suggesting a value judgement. Annita uses found pebbles and rocks from our shores embracing the notion that a visit to the sea enhances physical and mental well-being. Shaped over time by the movement of the ocean, these rocks survive with a resilience that reflects our own. Using a slip casting method she transfers their original textures onto porcelain forms. Hand-built chairs represent a person, where we rest, communicate, think and reflect. She takes these chairs underwater and photographs them becoming voyeurs onto an awe-inspiring world that often remains unseen. This portal offers a magical view which viewers are free to interpret through their own narrative.
Annita creates exhibition pieces along with a range of affordable sculptures. She shares a studio in County Down, Northern Ireland with her sister, Samantha.
